Oh and P.S. I wasn't arguing anyone else's point (Deepdarkred, for instance). I agree about Otis and the situation with Lori.
Shane Walsh is my favorite TWD character, though that's almost difficult to say because I love all of the characters so much. But realistically speaking, in a post-apocalyptic situation like on TWD, Shane Walsh, in my opinion is the most realistic of them all, as far as the decisions he has made in the name of survival. Mid-season finale last week, I saw a lot of delusional people bitchin' and complaining on Twitter about Shane and wishing the show would kill him off'. Sorry, but they need to put themselves in the situation themselves and then ask: Who would I prefer to have my back? Dale, who hides the groups only guns? Rick, who's off playing house with Herchel? (I love both of those characters! Don't get me wrong!) Or Shane, who kicks some serious ass, can shoot the eyelash off a person a mile away and....well, it doesn't hurt at all that he's hot to boot, right? Not that that matters in a zombie apocalypse - jus' sayin'.

Anyway, nice post on my favorite character!

I think a lot of people's affection towards Shane comes from great acting on Jon Bernthal's part, but despite him having a lot of moments of being "right", the ones where he is "wrong" or chooses a less human path of action tend to weigh a lot more in my mind that the right ones. I was among those that cheered when he proved to Hershel that the walkers aren't simply sick individuals that will heal with a nice dip in holy water and some prayers, but I was also among those that wanted to roast Shane over a small fire and throw him to the Walkers when he tortured Otis in order to escape. I'm not saying I would've been better in a similar situation, because I never faced a zombie hoard before - thought I would've had the heart to shoot him in the head - but it really shifted him into a much darker territory, possibly even more so than attacking Lori. No still means no, zombie apocalypse or not.
I think he's slowly unravelling, but with such a performance, Jon Bernthal has won a fan for live, that's me. I can't wait to see what more happens with his character in the second half of the second season.
Great piece about him, I really enjoyed it. It was quite a well presented set of arguments in favour of his character.
