Commander Mondays: Tony Todd

Once veteran actor Tony Todd stepped off the stage and into the 1986 film Sleepwalk, it was only a matter of time before he slipped into our nightmares through Clive Barker’s terrifying Candyman and became one of the most recognizable icons of horror films worldwide.

As William Bludworth in the Final Destination series, he shared with wide-eyed viewers his vast knowledge of death and offered up a few tips about how to cheat the Reaper himself. In the 1990 remake of Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead, Tony came face to face with the shambling horde for the first time, awarding him first-hand knowledge and experience that would prove invaluable for the future. It is this knowledge and experience that makes him more than qualified for leadership in the Zombie Survival Crew. Tony’s versatility, charisma and quiet nature directly contrast his powerful presence, and one cannot help but wonder what lurks beneath the surface, or what hides behind the chilling, intelligent smile.

Towering over just about everybody at a statuesque 6 feet 5 inches, the imposing Tony Todd hails from our nation’s capital. He put in two years at the University of Connecticut before starting on a new path with a scholarship from the renowned Eugene O’Neill National Theater Institute. Tony appeared in scores of theater  performances with the Hartman Conservatory in Stamford, Connecticut and the Trinity Square Repertory Theatre Conservatory in Providence, Rhode Island. He also taught playwriting to high school students in the Hartford public school system. Tony has appeared in films, stage performances and TV series almost too numerous to mention, including Oliver Stone’s Academy Award-winning film Platoon, the title role in award-winning playwright August Wilson’s King Hedley II, and co-starring alongside Brandon Lee and Michael Wincott in the 1994 cult classic The Crow. On the smaller screen, we’ve seen Tony  on Boston Public, NYPD Blue, Law & Order, Crossing Jordan, and The X-Files. He has had recurring roles in all three Star Trek franchises, episodes of CSI: Miami, and many other acclaimed television series.

While waiting for the Z-pocalypse to begin and the call to arms from the ZSC, Tony continues to work hard, honing his skills and developing his already considerable talents in preparation for the inevitable. He has a LOT coming up in the near future, as he has been working on multiple film projects for some time. Recently completed work includes Agoraphobia, The Witching Hour, and Vanish. Currently in post-production are Cowboy’s Girl, Beyond the Game, Live-Evil, Frankenstein and an as of yet untitled project from director Livi Zheng. Tony is currently filming Beast Mode and is slated to appear in more upcoming films including Broken Cross, Crimson Saints.

Tony also assumed the role of the Starfleet Commander in Chief in the indie-budgeted  Star Trek: Axanar alongside veteran actors Richard Hatch, Kate Vernon and Gary Graham:

Tony Todd Relays Battle Tips

Brad Fulton Portrait

Few Zombie Survival Crew Commanders can tell it like Yellow Brigade First Lieutenant Tony Todd.

On a recent foray into the Atlanta area, Commander Todd took time out from battle to deliver a PSA chock full of zombie killing tips. Pay close attention troops, Tony has come face-to-face with the shambling hordes and he knows exactly what it takes to survive.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an uncontrollable craving for candy I need to address….

Walkin’ in a Zombiepocalypse

With the holidays upon us, things have been a little hectic around the command center. Not only are processing all the reports coming in of suspected zombie activity, and with the cold temperatures who knows what will happen, the Oracle is dancing around sprinkling tinsel everywhere and has put up so many blinking lights the command center looks like a 70’s discotech. So despite the serious task at hand, command does have the holiday spirit.

And now to bring you a little holiday cheer is the commander of the Orange Brigade, our very own RC Murphy. And if this isn’t proof that she’s been spending too much time with the zombie bunnies, then I don’t know what is.

Walkin’ in a Zombiepocalypse (to the tune of Winter Wonderland)
lyrics by RC Murphy

Zombies groan, can you hear ’em?
On the walls, blood is glistenin’
A horrific sight,
A world full of fright
Walkin’ in a Zombiepocalypse.

Gone away is the old world,
Here to stay is a new world
Of death everywhere
And being so scared,
Walkin’ in a Zombiepocalypse.

On the sidewalk lays a rotting body,
It begins to twitch and moan and groan.
He’ll rise, very hungry
We’ll arm up then
And blow that sucker’s
Brains all over town.

Later on, he’ll expire,
As we set him on fire
His face full of rage
We’re saving the day,
Walkin’ in a Zombiepocalypse

Everybody SING! Walkin’ in a Zombiepocalypse… Walkin’ in a Zombiepocalypse… Walkin’ in a Zombiepocalypse…

Happy Birthday to Us!

It has been a wild, crazy, and sometimes downright chaotic twelve months. For those of us who were here when the foundation was laid for the Zombie Survival Crew, those twelve months have flown by. When we sat back recently to look over the progress we’ve made we realized how truly astonishing an accomplishment this empire really is.

And we couldn’t have done it without you, our ever-faithful crew members.

Day by day our numbers grow and we’re introduced to new folks that are eager, ready to take on the shambling horde coming our way with nothing more than a 2×4 and their courage to aid them. The sentiment warms our hearts. It also makes us realize how lucky we are that you all have accepted us so readily. Your support has taken the ZSC from, “I wonder if…” to reality with enough energy left over to drag us into our second year of existence.

We’d like to thank our command crew as well. Without their hard work and dedication, we’d be pretty much brain dead by now—Norman Reedus, IronE Singleton, Anthony Guajardo, Sean Patrick Flanery, Neil Brown Jr., Anthony Michael Hall, Ted Raimi, David Della Rocco, Casper van Dien, James Gonzaba, Jim Parrack, Tony Todd, Sam Trammell, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Michael Kenworthy, Elizabeth Schaible, Adrian Kali Turner, Addy Miller, Viviana Chavez, Jim Burleson, J. LaRose, Ernie Hudson, Michael Rooker, Billy Tackett, Paul Phillips, and the crew members that have really stepped up to save our sanity this year: Lora Lapoint, Sarah Quattrocci, Wulfie, Grae Wolffe, and JL Coburn.

Hope you’re ready; we’re hitting 2012 at a dead sprint. Make sure your shoes are tied.

With lots of love,

Juliette, Jinxie, LK, and RC

And now it’s time for a little cake… who wants the eyeball?

‘Tis the Season

October’s bony knuckles are rapping on our front door. Hundreds of thousands of people will be lining up, eager to have the wits scared out of them at local haunted houses. TV stations are running horror movie marathons designed to make sure you lose sleep at night.

And the Zombie Survival Crew has a few events in store for its members to make sure that y’all are ready to face your fears.

Don’t miss the chance to meet your ZSC commanders face-to-face in Florida:

Spooky Empire’s Ultimate Horror Weekend

Halloween weekend we have not one, but two events for crew members to participate in. We fully encourage your to gear up and take place in the 2011 Halloween Zombie Event, a live-action scenario where you can chose between playing a zombie or a survivor. This is the perfect opportunity to test your skills in a safe manner before the Zombiepocalypse catches you unprepared. Go to their website to find a participating city near you.

For crew members unable to make it to the live-action 2011 Halloween Zombie Event, don’t worry. Commanders LK and RC have been wracking their brains (mmm… brains…) and developed an online version of the event. For more information, read here and keep an eye on this site for rules, regulations, and suggested role-play strategies for the online 2011 Halloween Zombie Apocalypse.

Tony Todd adds his skills to ZSC Command

Priority Status: HIGH
Dispatcher: Juliette Terzieff

His deep voice stopped me in my tracks before the sentence was finished. “I believe we have business to finish?” I looked up to find Tony Todd smiling down at me. On several recent Zombie Survival Crew missions ZSC Commanders have had the chance to interact with Tony, discussing battle tactics and survival strategies with a bonafide zombie killer. With Tony’s history it was perhaps only natural that he initially view any Zombie Survival Crew with a bit of curiosity and caution.

When it comes to battle-tested, capable individuals you want by your side during the Zombieapocalypse Tony meets every desired criterion …and then some. He’s got brains, brawn, training and experience. And while he is known for playing tough guys in productions such as The Crow, Night of the Living Dead and Candyman, the truth is it’s the smile that really kills.

Tony’s years of fighting and, in some cases, being the undead give him a unique understanding of the battles we may face as the Zombiepocalypse unfolds and ZSC command is delighted to announce that he has officially joined our ranks!

Zombie Survival Crew please raise your weapons and welcome our newest First Lieutenant TONY TODD!!!!

While we work on defining future mission parameters with Tony, take a look at his latest feature film project, Sushi Girl! (You can follow Sushi Girl on Twitter (@SushiGirlMovie) and for more information go to the website: Sushi Girl Also, check out the trailer below:
